Art Now for Autism
October 1 – 31, 2008

This online exhibit raises funds for autism awareness and research with 100% of art sales going to Autism Speaks. This year’s exhibit includes the work of over 120 artists including artists with autism spectrum disorders. Prices range from just a couple of dollars to over $500. Be sure to check out our selection of one-of-a-kind puzzle pins for a donation of $25. There is something for everyone! Support the cause and get a wonderful piece of art, too!

I donated these pieces to the auction and also made the blue piece in this donated collaborative project .

I was notified last week that my items had arrived for the fundraiser. Later that week I heard that the cooperative puzzle art piece I was involved in also arrived. **Mine is the blue piece in the lower left.**

This cause is near and dear to my heart…my son has Asperger’s Syndrome which is on the autism spectrum.

1 in 150 children are diagnosed with autism. 1 in 97 boys. Autism impairs a person’s ability to communicate and relate to others. It is also associated with rigid routines and repetitive behaviors, such as obsessively arranging objects or following very specific routines. Symptoms can range from very mild to quite severe.

I was not able to be an artist participant this year due to circumstances beyond my control but the cause is very close to my heart.

I came across this a couple weeks ago, bookmarked it and totally forgot. I do that more than I’d like to admit.
Check out the website here at www.artnowforautism.com 100% of the proceeds from the sale will go to Autism Speaks.

I’m planning on sending off these 2 pieces that I’ve made over the past few years.

This is a cause VERY near to my heart. Our boy has Asperger’s Syndrome, which is on the autism spectrum. He is doing extremely well these days. We are so proud of him and how far he has come. People who knew him as a preschooler can hardly believe that the 8yr old in front of them is the same child.

My friend Theresa sent me 3 pieces of a larger children’s puzzle to alter. The completed puzzle with pieces from various artists will be donated to ART FOR AUTISM NOW.

Before I began I tried to think of what I wanted to say in this piece. I just sat back and thought of my boy and how sweet and loving he is. He is my totally unique, one-of-a-kind, sweet boy who just happens to have autism.

This is a very powerful piece for me. I had no idea what I had in mind when I sat down to create today. I had this old canvas laying around that I had covered over an unattractive collage with gesso. I grabbed it and started playing. This piece just sort of evolved from things I had laying around. Maybe it was a release for me…we’ve had some ups and downs lately. Hopefully everything is on the right track again…
