    AJJ: Lilac

Today’s journal page for my theme of Botanicals was inspired by the Tim Holtz lilac card. I’m a huge fan of lilacs. They have a very old fashioned feel to me.  I have to admit though that purple is kind of out of my comfort zone when it comes to creating.

I cut a piece of scrapbook paper to my desired size of 7×10 inches to fit the converted planner journal I’m using. Next I pulled pieces that I felt would coordinate well in my collage. The scrapbook paper ended up being more of a frame for the main collage.

Layers and more layers is the name of the game lately. Keeping them all straight and adhered in the right order is the tricky part.

It seems no collage is done without a bit of extra texture from a fabric, lace or trims me me as of late.

I Hope you’ll play along and create a journal page for my theme of Botanicals and link up over at Art Journal Journey this month!

    Pretty in pink

I really enjoyed putting this page together mostly from scraps. I chose the main image first from this ephemera book I ordered on Amazon over a year ago. Then I went about pulling out pieces from my scraps that spoke to me.

The pink scrap wasn’t long enough but I decided to use it anyway and embrace the imperfection of it. The overall page still measures 7×10. I used layers of organza ribbon, lace harvested from a shirt and a bit of curtain scrap to help with the illusion of a full length page.

I used a bulb pin to attach a pretty vintage button for even more texture and a bit of bling.

I added a ticket cut from scrapbook paper along with a couple other random scraps to my design as well as the postage cancelation sticker. With that I felt I was done and stamped the date. As I was setting up to photograph the page for the blog, I decided it needed a bit more. I found a Tim Holtz butterfly that made me happy. I seem to be all about the butterflies lately.

This may be my last page for “I’ve got a notion”. Time will tell.

    Mini collage time

Ok I think I’m a little obsessed again. I’ve been creating tons of mini collage pieces.

While making embellishments for my December Daily I rediscovered my love of fabric and paper collage at my sewing machine.

I haven’t made any of these in a very long time. Likely since I made them for the article I wrote for Sew Somerset. Of course my style has changed since then a bit but that’s to be expected. We shouldn’t stagnate in our creativity in my opinion.

These blue ones make me want to created a winter theme journal or set of greeting cards.Although these I think are my favorite. I love the pop of orange along with the teal and blue.

Trust me you haven’t seen the last of these pieces…
