Goodbye Daddy…

This is the last photo I have of him. I took it last fall on Labor Day when the kids and I were visiting him at the nursing home.

In an email update to family and friends yesterday I said:

“He is ready…he’s been ready…it’s time for him to go HOME where he can have peace. It’s hard but I can’t stand to see him locked inside a body and mind that’s betrayed him anymore.”

He is free now!

I love you Daddy…rest in peace.

  1. Halle, your post touched me. I know your sadness at losing your sweet dad is mixed with relief that he will suffer no more. Please accept my condolences.

  2. I just saw this on my blog sidebar. I am so very sorry for you. I know you are grieving and feeling relief at the same time. It’s now time to take a breath and reflect. You know how I feel. It’s easier to know than to say at this time.

  4. I am so sorry for the loss of your Father. I know how very hard it is as
I lost my Father 2 1/2 years ago. His body also just couldn’t go on. My best wishes to you and your family.

  5. Halle so sorry for you, Thank you for your kind words on my blog…. I want to share this with you, I did not compose it but find it helps…

Miss Me, But Let Me Go

When I come to the end of the road
and the sun has set for me,

I want no rites in a gloom-filled room
Why cry for a soul set free?

Miss me a little – but not too long
And not with your head bowed low

Remember the love that once was shared
Miss me but let me go

For this is a journey we all must take
    And each must go alone.

It’s all part of the master’s plan,
A step on the road to home.

When you are lonely and sick of heart
Go to the friends we know.

Bear your sorrow in good deeds.
Miss me but let me go.
