This book has been a bit more difficult for me to come up with something that fit the theme of the book. The owner wanted a focus on Japan and Okinawa, specifically their crafts and textiles but thankfully.. gave us “an out” so to speak as long as we stuck to the Asian theme.

Haiku and Bonsai felt to me like a good fit without repeating the same Kimono’s and Geisha’s that would be expected with these theme. The attempt at haiku poetry is all my own…

It seems like an eternity since I’ve had a chance to sit and play in my craft zone. It was refreshing to be free to create. Life has been getting in the way lately. Such is life, right!

The puzzle piece will likely be sent as a postcard. Yes it is that large!

The two altered books spreads are in my “just for fun” book. That book is so fun…no theme, no expectations, only playtime!

I completed my pages for the latest book I received in my current round robin.

The original drawings from the book were hand-painted by me with watercolor crayons. The chopsticks were shorten by breaking then shaping them in a pencil sharpener before a slight bit of whittling and sanding.

The bamboo was drawn then painted by yours truly. The fortune reads “The luck that is ordained for you will be coveted by others”

I’ve never done any Asian themed art before…at least not consciously. I did do a mixed-media painting a while back that ended up having an Asian flare.

Hoorah! I was able to get “T” completed today. The tag reads “Take time… before time takes you.” This was a quote by yours truly a couple years back. I had envisioned putting a tombstone on the page as well but didn’t find one I wanted to use.

I’m working in the second book of a 10 person round robin. This book has an ABC theme. We are each to pick 2-3 letters. I’ve decided on “M” and “T” but have only completed this one so far. I have my idea and materials picked for the second…just need time to put it together.

Time has been scarce as of late…it seems that we’ve got something going every day during this winter break. I try and sneak in some art time before bed but some nights I’m just too darn tired!

I got another gift made up this weekend. It’s a scrapbook made from a children’s board book. It is filled with pictures of the kids over the past year.

I’ve been at it again.
After moving snow yesterday afternoon and this morning, I thought I’d play a little.

First I took out watercolor paper and started making some backgrounds. I used paints, inks, gesso, embossing powder, PearlEx powder, foam stamps and papers scraps.

LAYERS, LAYERS, LAYERS.

While waiting for those to dry I pulled out a book I started long ago with some tip-in from a swap. My theme for the swap was quotes. I used the book All I really needed to know I learned in Kindergarten by Robert Fulghum as my base. These are the pages I added today. They are worked in directly in the book…not as a tip-in.

After my backgrounds dried I cut them into 4×8’s for chunky book page backgrounds and 2.5×3.5 for ATC’s.

This is the ATC was made with one of my new backgrounds.
