It’s time to play a little catch up again with the calendars. I honestly was on time with these…I just had too many other things I wanted to blog about and this one got pushed to the back burner.May completeI added some little clouds to the sky part way through the month but other than that I just kept track of my days.June I’m not sure that I have any room to add anything to June. I got a little carried away but I like it!!

SOC4-2It’s time to be inspired by weekly color prompts from Kristen of twinkletwinklelikeastar Hop on over to her blog to check it out. Once a week is a pretty small time commitment even with all the activity of summer.

After having such a blast last year with this challenge…I knew I’d be a part of it again!

I’m ready, I’m ready, I’m ready…

I’ve been anxiously awaiting today since last August when I discovered the scavenger hunt that Rinda of Gallo Organico puts on each summer. 2014summerhuntI discovered it at the very end of summer and figured it would be more fun to play along from the beginning.

Here is the super awesome list that I can’t wait to get started on.

1. A sign welcoming people to your home town (or a nearby town)
2. A garden gnome
3. Birds on a wire
4. A group of tourists
5. A rack of post cards
6. An urban street scene
7. A rural landscape
8. A tattoo on a person
9. A bakery
10. A photo bomb (someone found lurking in the background of photo; the lurker may have intended to disrupt the picture or may be doing it unintentionally, but the background lurker is a surprise to the photographer)
11. A horn
12. A mascot
13. A sunrise
14. A parade
15. A juggler
16. A sign in a language other than English
17. A lamp post
18. A water fall
19. A public garden
20. A bus (not a car, truck, lorry, camper or RV) with a picture painted on its sides.
21. A photograph of you with something representing the season (recognizing that the season will be Winter for our friends in the southern hemisphere). Note: you may not use a substitute for this item.
If you find something on the list too difficult, you may substitute one of the following items for anything on the list, except for Item #21:
Alternative A: A kite, hot air balloon or blimp
Alternative B: A bird house

I’m not setting a schedule for my posts. When the mood strikes me,  I’ll post a few along with a brief description of how it photo fits the list item. In addition I’ll be posting the list each time with the items “found” with a strike through the item.

I intend to use all new photos…nothing from my collection. I can think of so many of these that I already have…but what fun would that be!?! None.  And also not in the spirit of this challenge.

I’m keeping up!! I’m so excited that I dove in and took this art calendar challenge hosted by Kate over at thekathrynwheel.blogspot.com.

First I’ll show my completed March calendar. See… something every day. March completeAnd I’m on time with my April calendar too! April calendarReally pastel and spring like. You can’t see it but the page is very rough from a new gesso brand I bought so we’ll see how that works out for writing on all month.

JanuraryHere we are with the first check in and I’m 2 days late. Nice. Oh well…I made it and that’s all that matters.

I managed to get something in each day.  Just a brief note about my day…or a picture…or whatever came to mind. I noticed that Sunday I don’t really have much to talk about.

FeburaryMy February calendar is ready to go… I’ll likely add more embellishment along the way but for now I’m thinking that I’m going to leave my calendar pages somewhat unadorned then if/when the mood strikes during the month I can add whatever I want.

I like that I only have an inch and a half to fill…well likely more like 1.25 inches. Short and sweet, no pressure journalling. Just my speed. I’ve got to get dinner going but I’ll be back later to check out the linky gadget over at thekathrynwheel.

kathryn wheelI’ve debated a couple years now on joining this challenge.

I admire those who document their life in some way.

Yes, I blog. Yes, I keep a calendar both on paper and computer. But that’s not exactly what I had in mind.

I’ve thought about so many options such as Project Life, December Daily, daily journal or even a pocket calendar such as my mom uses to write a snippet of her day.  Then my mind went back to the art calendar challenge put forth by Kathryn Wheel. I’ve been following several blog friends through there journeys over the past year.  I decided this was the time.

cold morning

Besides…it’s way too cold to do anything in the basement where my art space resides. Now that I have the background done for this project, I can do the rest where its warmer.

I plan to bind each page separately into the book covers using a technique I saw years ago in a library book. Hopefully, I can pull it off when the time comes.

Remember I said it was cold….

This is my front door…

Governor Dayton called off school for today last Friday knowing the Arctic blast we’d be experiencing today.  The kids are hoping for yet another day off tomorrow. I’d say that’s pretty doubtful but they can dream.

Stay warm and safe everyone!!

At craft club, I learned about an organization called Operation Write Home that provides greeting cards to military personnel for them to send home to loved ones.  They are able to provide these by donations from crafters. sketch 187

What a cool idea!! I’m so in!!

While browsing the site I saw that they often do challenges in the form of a sketch for cards. You can take the sketch and make any kind of card you so desire.

The latest was sketch#187.  This is my interpretation.

I don’t usually work that way when it comes to cards, so this was quite a challenge for me.

I’m thinking I’ll try and work through a few more of the sketches from previous challenges to see if I can work on my direction following. :)

In the mean time, I’ll still be creating cards in my own way.

Going with my instinct…letting it happen naturally.

Sometimes I love the end result…sometimes not.

The point is to keep on being creative every day.

And by the way….

thanks for stopping by.
