    Mixed-media “Courtship”

    courtship

I’ve been staring at this piece for a good week now trying to figure out if it’s done.

I kept thinking that it needed some words.

Now I’m thinking that words are not needed. Just like it works with love in the real world.

Words aren’t necessary, you just know.

    Paint experiments

    20130321_1665 20130321_1664

I was feeling the need to just paint. I wasn’t sure what I wanted to DO so I grabbed some paper and just DID.

It was really fun and free. As in free like a bird, of course.

So I ended up with a 9×12 sheet of watercolor paper covered with random painting..mostly geometric in style.

I decided to cut it up a bit for card backgrounds.

    Sort of like serendipity pages.

20130321_1666I made these three cards and have some painted page left over for who knows what.

I did a few more background sheets that haven’t fired up my inspiration yet. I figure the more I push it…the less inspired I get.

In the mean time I’m getting more cards made. I found out today that I’ll be able to do another craft show in April. Nothing like a deadline to get me working!!

    Children’s Literature

Children’s books are so much fun.  charlottesweb

Silly stories, tales with a moral, social stories, nursery dairyofawormrhymes and so forth,  all have one idea in mind. To get kids reading or being read to by others.

I volunteer in our elementary school library once a week and love to see those certain titles that are being checked out time and time again. They are sometimes tattered and torn…what I like to call, well loved.

In my new altered book I’ll be highlighting some of my favorites. I’ve been throwing this idea around in my head for a while. Now I’ve finally gotten started.   veryhungrycaterpillar

Charlotte’s Web by E. B. White…a classic.  I remember my 4th grade teacher, Mrs. Clark, reading it to our class.

Diary of a Worm by Doreen Cronin is one of the funniest kids books I’ve read. I get a chuckle just sitting here thinking about it.

The Very Hungry Caterpillar is just one of many favorites by Eric Carle. Certainly the easiest to illustrate.
