    It’s Earth Day

Personally, I think every day should be Earth Day or at least treated as such. Being aware of what we buy, what we dump, the resources we use and how it effects our planet.

I think so many of us forget about our trash once it hits the can. Out of site, out of mind. I know I’ve been guilty of this.

We are fortunate to live in an area with really great curbside recycling. And I’ve sought out options for a few other items that aren’t curbside recyclable such as #5 yogurt cups…which our county environmental center will take.

Other things we do in an effort to be eco-friendly are:

    • buying in bulk at our local co-op
    • shopping local which includes farmers markets, buying beef from a farmer and shopping at our small local hardware store whenever possible so we aren’t wasting gas driving to the big box store.
    • turning junk into art
    • reusing containers for storage
    • patching clothing
    • making blankets from old clothing
    • buying used whenever possible
    • buying safe, concentrated, plant derived cleaning products for our home as well as our health and beauty products (find out more)
    • grouping errands into one day or just walking for the small stuff
    • drying clothes outside during the summer
    • doing without or figuring out how to use what we already have
I hope some of these have inspired you to your continue efforts help keep our planet
a safe place for all living creatures.
    Have anymore tips for me?
I’d love to hear what you’re doing to be eco-friendly!!

PS…it’s my friend Elizabeth’s birthday today..stop by her blog and wish her a happy birthday!

    New year…new goals

After going through last years goals and what I accomplished, I feel it’s important for me to set some new goals for 2011.

    ART:

    • List at least one thing a week in my etsy store.
    • Finish our vacation scrapbook
    • knit or crochet one project using proper directions (something I really struggle with)
    • Improve my photography skill

    LIFE:

    • return to our healthy eating regimen
    • workout 3 times a week
    • weekly family board game night with full media blackout
    • keep a journal

    Accountabilty time

Last year I set some goals for myself so I figured I had better fess up and see what I actually accomplished.
I’m rating myself with a stoplight system for lack of a better way.

    This is my 2010 list:

    ART:

    • learn to knit -Need more practice but have the concept down
    • use the supplies I have instead of buying new -only purchased garage sale/thrift store supplies
    • finish my circles quilt –DONE
    • open an Etsy shop –open, stocked and have made 2 sales!
    • complete my Nature altered book –not yet but am getting closer
    • Be Creative Every Day -it’s not always art but I feel I do something creative most days

    SELF:

    • get back to eating healthy –the holidays have been a set back
    • get back to my exercise routine –not at the level I want to be…goal needs to continue for sure.
    HOME:
    • paint the kitchen cupboards –nope
    • plant more veggies –Yes..will plant more next year
    • de-cluttter in prep for a monster garage sale –YES! huge sale
    • repurpose and recycle more –hard to measure this one but I think I have

I must be a glass half-full kind of person because I see the goals that I haven’t quite met not as failures as some would but as stairs I have climbed on my way to the goal.
Over all I’m glad I made this list. Obviously, I didn’t do everything I wanted to but really…who does?  I’m going to think about my goals for 2011 now. I think accountability is a great motivator.
