A second look: September dress

Last updated : April 10, 2016

SecondlookSince we are coming up on Homecoming for my kids school I decided to dig up a post I created paying homage to my high school flag twirling days. Our big event was Homecoming. We marched and twirled with the band in the parade and during halftime of the football game. It was really quite fun!

Take a look…

Last month some of my visitors from the Dress-up Project thought the idea of recreating my flag twirler uniform was a good idea. Funny because it was just something I thought on a whim …not a really great plan in my head. So, I dug out the picture and gave it a whirl…or maybe that should be a twirl.

Most high school mascots are named for birds or tough, scary animals. Or maybe warriors.
Not us…
We were the Skippers. Yeah…I know…
Oh, watch out!!  Here come those big, bad Skippers!  It was a nautical thing that was much more relevant about 50 or so years prior. Although I’m sure it was chosen as an elitist thing. Bunch of snobs….but I digress.

Anyway…we had a sailor theme for our uniforms. I did manage the sailor collar but didn’t even attempt to make a sailor hat or the white gloves.

I’m  pretty happy with the result.

What do you think compared to the real deal…?

Homecoming 1988

Never mind the “woodsy-the-owl glasses”.  Good grief…keep in mind it was the 80’s after all.

Make sure to visit the Alice and Camilla blog to see the rest of the September dresses.

Of course I remember that dress, but I had forgotten the other ones you made. You were SO cute in that outfit, and your altered dress looked just like it, too. Wasn’t that a fun year of dresses? I was a bit sad to see it end.

OK Skipper, at least your mascot was not a shock of wheat! Thanks for sharing this second look on the 2nd with us this month. I so enjoyed this look back today.

Love your flag twirler art, and the whole collection of dresses. Great photo of the 80s, too! Have a great weekend, hugs, Valerie

Well, Skipper…..we had Danny the Driller (as in oil wells) for our mascot.
Believe it, or not, the big framed glasses are making a come back. My GD just got new frames and they are the bigger square type…..like mine form the 80’s….LOL

I had not seen your dress collection, they are really terrific. Thanks for re-sharing them.

What a great share! Also being a child of the 80’s I recognize the look and the hair! Cute dresses! What patience it must take to make such little wonderful creations. Thanks for “pulling them out of closet” for all of us to admire!

Really fun post you reshared Halle.
That was such a great monthly challenge and how neat to see your dresses all together again.
