A second look: Summer of Love ATC swap

Last updated : January 4, 2020

Because it’s January I start to think about summer. You always want what you can’t have..right?

So let’s have a Second on the 2nd look at the summer of love swap

9/27/2009 Summer of Love ATC swap

These were so fun to make!!

I started with an 8.5×11 sheet of periwinkle cardstock. With an old credit card, I spread out some orange and yellow craft paints.

After that was dry, I used rubber stamps, more paint, markers, and stencils to create lots of background interest.

When I was happy with it I cut 9 ATC’s from my full sheet of cardstock.

I freehanded a VW bug to make a template then cut little bugs out of discarded book pages. Paint and marker were applied in a very loose manner.

I punched wheels from black “handmade paper” …I put that in quotes since it was actually store-bought. I then used little flower sticker for some fun hubcaps.

The part that I love the most is the genuine VW key attached to each one. I grew up with tons of Volkswagons. My dad and his friend would buy them cheap, fix them up and resell. Sometimes they would just part them out. Dad never threw out anything so I had just enough VW keys laying around to give these ATC’s just a little extra punch!

Won’t you going me in linking up with Second on the 2nd?

    Memories, you bring back!
Mum had Feuerzangenbowle and really tried to drive home after that in such a car.
Dad had a Käfer, too (I can´t remember, but they took me on tours).
I still have a key to our 1985 Nissan Patrol LWB.
I had a VW GOlf (Hubby´s, actually), a Bora (TDI!) and Polos, once a Jetta (from a colleague). Hubby now again has a Skoda, a family-member of VW.

Great idea with the key, may I “steal”/repeat this?

I agree, the VW key is a super addition. And lucky you to have so many. These are cute ATCs for sure. Hugs-Erika

The cards are so cute! The flower power VW bug is perfect, and it’s amazing you had enough keys for each one.

You may have noticed I didn’t stop by to visit, or I didn’t host my own Second on the 2nd. The reason is quite simple. Wednesday evening, just as I was saying good-bye to my dear friends SC and ND who dropped by to wish me a happy new year, my electricity went out. When I looked outside and saw the neighbors across the street, whose lights NEVER go out when mine do were also out, I knew it wasn’t a blown transformer. My friends decided to stay to see what the problem was. Not more than three or four minutes later, we heard sirens, not just police, but fire, too. We knew it sounded close, so we walked in the direction of the sirens. It was quite dark, but my friends had their cell phone lights to guide them. Two blocks west and one block south we saw that someone in a big truck had hit a light pole so hard, it knocked it over and stretched the wire so hard, the electricity went off in the area on one side, while the other side was draped over someone’s house and was zapping live sparks on the ground in the road.

At first we thought it was a drunk driver, but after the ambulance arrived, we saw the man either had a heart attack or possibly a seizure. As the electric company was arriving, they told the crowd it would be at least a day before we would get our power back. Instead of staying home in the cold and dark, my friend SC, who lives in another town, invited me to her home. I am just now getting home. Even though she has an I-Pad, I don’t know the password that gets me onto blogger (which is stored on my computer only). I’ll be back soon, just want you to know why I wasn’t around to visit and play host. The electricity is on (I’m not sure how long it’s been on), but it’s freezing here. Thanks for understanding, dear friend.

BTW, I think I was in that swap (GRIN)!!!
