A second look: Sweet season journal page

Today for Second on the 2nd I’d like to share one of my favorite pages of all time. Sometimes all the pieces fall into place just right. You reach a creative bliss. This was one of those times for me. Sure wish that happened more often.

Take a look…eyes

After our snow yesterday…yes you read that correctly…snow on April 5th, I guess I wanted to remind myself that a new season is actually upon us. It is Spring according to the calendar and before we know it, the weather will be hot and humid.

When I started this journal page I had no idea where it was going.

I spread my super thin, lame gesso over the pages in my Watkins cookbook journal then kept adding layers of paint and stamping.

Next I wanted to try out some molding paste applied through a stencil…a technique I’ve seen several times on YouTube videos. I love the texture it adds. I’ll definitely be trying that one again!

I used water and walnut ink to age this library card which is placed on top of a bit of a forest scene magazine page. Love it when things like that work out. Still looking for more texture I glued down a bit of flower trim.

I am incredibly happy with the way this one turned out.

And look..the sun is even shiny bright today promising that the season is actually changing.

Nice pages. I like the modeling paste using stencil. How does it hold up? I’m wondering if it cracks after being on bendable paper for awhile.

This is a truly beautiful spread. I am also always amazed that some pieces just seem to fall into place, and others not, sigh! Hugs, Valerie

I remember this post from before, and still love it. Like Valerie, I also am amazed at how some pages come together, while others just take forever to make. That has happened in this swap I’m in. I was so worried about Annette’s pages on Proverbs, but when I began working on her pages, I simply couldn’t stop. For Chris’s pages I had a devil of a time getting started, even though I had pulled a bunch of images and ephemera together I wanted to use.

Leave it to me to get off topic, though. I nearly forgot to say how much I adore this spread in the palaver of my diatribe. It’s a wonderful addition to your AB/journal, and worthy of a magazine publication. Thanks for bringing it back as your second look on the 2nd.

That is such a gorgeous page I am glad you shared it again. It has a vintage feel and also feels a lot like June when everything is still so green and fresh. Hugs-Erika

Everything for those great pages certainly did come together nicely.
Great color and vintage feel and your modeling paste turned out really super too.
I’ll never figure out why some pages seem to flow effortlessly and others give all kinds of stumbling blocks.
    I enjoyed seeing this.
