T Tuesday: landscaping edition

Last updated : July 18, 2017

Last week we had a beautifully cool, breezy, low humidity day. Outside projects were definitely on the docket. The biggest of these was replacing landscaping. This has needed to be done for quite some time.

Here’s a photo from 2 years ago…T Tuesday: harvest edition| Halle's Hobbies

The log border was already starting to get a little wonky. Fast forward two years and it was rotting away.

Now it looks like this! Mini-me and I did this one ourselves. The edging is recycled rubber. Nice and flexible to bend  and form to what your little heart desires. We had a couple of surface tree roots to contend with so we just made sure to line things up so that I wouldn’t have to pound a stake through the root.

I did end up going through what I can only assume was root a couple inches underground on the back side of this flower bed.

We were so happy with how nice this one looked and how easy it was to install that I went back for more material to fix up another eyesore area in need of upgrade.

I’m not sure if you can tell but along the right side of the photo is some black edging that was basically laying down…definitely not how we installed it so many years ago. Frost heave has done a number on it.

Now it looks like this….

Complete with a couple new perennials.

I love how this looks so much!

Since at least half of the black edging pieces were still salvageable, I put them around my water barrels.

That is kind of our haphazard area. Mismatched pieces of this and that have all found their way over here. It all works though. Now if we’d only get some rain to refill my barrels.

So after a hard days work a little refreshment is always in order.

Just a couple more days of taxi driving for volleyball this week…then two weeks off before it starts up again…everyday. Mini-me and I are also getting ready for a little trip north. The boys are too busy working to come with us. I’ll be sure to share that adventure in a couple weeks.

What are you doing today?

Oh and just for you Chris

lovely new garden works Halle. Love the idea of using those barrels. We do keep buckets in our basement with a hose attachment to collect the condensation from our central air and that’s what I use to change out my birdbath/watering hole/bird spa every day to keep the skeets at bay:) Happy T day!

I had a rain barrel when I lived in Webb City, but I’ve not found one I can manipulate here. I really love how yours looks, though.

Your new landscaping looks beautiful. I’m super impressed because I helped Sally put some of that down at her place. She opted for green, but the design and concept were the same. I did all the hammering, and she did all the supervising. Yours looks professional!

Your hostas are really growing like weeds. I love the style of these, because I have some that are the same. My flowers are nearly gone, though, unlike yours which seem to be in full bloom. They are beautiful.

Thanks for sharing your garden and your “drink” with us for T this nearly Tuesday. Sounds like you have a very busy week ahead and a fun time away with mini-me.

Your garden looks great with it’s makeover! The surround area to the tree looks wonderful – love how you have arranged everything! I love that you have rain barrels too – my Dad always had one to water the greenhouse! Thank you so much for showing the pear shaped tomato! I have never seen one before and had no idea that there were such things! Happy T Day! Chrisx

You and Mini-me did a lovely job on the tree surround and deck border flower beds, Halle. I like the recycled rubber border. I imagine it will last longer than wood.

    Happy T-Day! Hugs, Eileen

Your garden looks beautiful, I really liked the look of the new rubber trims you used. I thought they were stone work at first.
I think you would need that refreshing drink after all your hard work.

Looking good. I love your rain barrel. I would like one, but it means we have to add a gutter, so to get one becomes a bigger job. I’d say you earned that refreshing drink after all that work. happy T day. Hugs-Erika

Hi Halle, the rubber stuff looks great – (so does your garden), never seen it before and it might be just what I need to try and salvage some of my border from the furry tornadoes! Or maybe not, probably wouldn’t make the difference, what I need is a 6ft cage over it!

I love your new landscaping. That works well as a border, and I’m in favor of the lower maintenance materials. I’ve never had a water barrel. I’m not sure I know anybody who has one.
