    All that glitters

jewlery sortingI spent some time yesterday afternoon sorting and disassembling some junk jewelry I’ve collected over time. I’ve started watching a series on Netflix and wanted to be doing something productive while watching so I don’t feel quite as guilty.  The previous day I sorted my stack of papers that were months and months old. I hate filing. I had a temporary job while in college to get a vet supply company’s files up to date after almost a year of them stacking invoices in a spare room. ACK!! Soured me on filing.

grandpa's treat boxWe are celebrating my FIL birthday today.  He loves chocolate covered peanuts.  Instead of doing the boring thing of just giving him a bag or two of them, I decided he needed his own treat box. You see, the kids each have a treat box at Grandpa and Grandma’s house. It’s only fair that Grandpa have his own stash as well.

Notice the embossed paper…that was a piece from our time with the neighbor’s Cuttlebug. It definitely adds some pizazz.

    Fabric collage

My friend Patty let me know she got my package so, as promised, here is the full view of the fabric collage I created a while back.

I’ve been so inspired by others fabric collages in blogland but hadn’t ever attempted or even felt the inclination to attempt one until now.

I just kept layering pieces until I felt happy with it. The tree book page and the rust colored fabric were my starting point. I knew I wanted something dimensional so I searched through my jewelry stash and found this berry piece. I think it may have been a clip to dress-up a shoe in its former life.

I even got to use some of my CitroSolv background paper.

I’m definitely going to do some more work combining fabric and papers in the future.
