I’m finally picking up my art supplies again. I’ve been occupied with so many other things lately that I almost forgot that I had art supplies.

Almost.

Each month I put a sticky note on my computer monitor with the current Art Journal Journey theme and more often than not lately that note hits the trash without ever getting more than a passing glance each day. Today I made a point of making art.

Not wanting to wait for paint to dry prompted me to use gelatos to create a background. Since there happened to be a ewe and her lamb on the page I decided that a road through a pasture was appropriate.

I did a quick scribble drawing of the road and used several shade of green for the pasture. I blended with a baby wipe. I used a portion of a rubber stamp for the trees…without them the page was super boring. Pitt pens and craft paint was layered over the trees to add a touch of realism. Once I added the shadows at the base of the trees and the sheep I was satisfied with my quick journal page and actually checked a challenge off my list for a change.

I’m not saying this is my first and last for this Art Journal Journey challenge theme of journeys but it could be.

Art Journal Journey

I broke out the gelatos again for my latest journal page. I love how smoothly they blend. They are just a joy to work with. Such vibrant colors.

I also love how the page text shows through adding to the texture of the spread.

I definitely stepped outside my comfort zone with these colors. I’m always surprised when I try something new and it turns out better than I ever hoped.

When it came time for words on the page a conversation I’d had earlier with a neighbor came to mind. We were catching up on life….we don’t see each other much over winter. I mentioned I’d been sick and hadn’t been working much. We talked about the past and the future.

These words jumped out at me. I am living my dream. I am blessed.

art journal snippetI started this page at craft club next door. I wasn’t feeling like making cards this time. I prepped the pages with tape down the spine and a thin coat of gesso at home so I’d be ready to play. I brought my gelatos, some pens and baby wipes for my fingers. The baby wipes work really well for both clean up and to get a little moisture on your fingers so the gelato moves more freely.

The next evening I sat watching TV with the unfinished page on my lap. Something came up about pondering and questioning…or perhaps something else triggered that in my mind. I just started free writing my thoughts. I have always been intrigued with the idea of time travel and parallel universe theories. What if there were an alternate timeline some how…some way?

Forty-Two I believe

Now who can tell me what I’m referencing?

Forty-Two I believe

This page was created on the back of a Ritz cracker box bound into my door journal. I very rarely use this journal…in fact I had put it away in the cupboard and forgotten about it until yesterday.

Forty-Two I believe

I seem to do my pages about a year part…so at that rate I’ll be done with this one in about 8 years. HA!

The colors for this Week 3 of The Summer of Color hosted by Kristin of Twinkle, Twinkle gave me some trouble. I wasn’t sure how I wanted to proceed so I didn’t until today.

1 purple + 1 purple + 1 yellow

I happened upon an image of a little girl all in yellow in a magazine ad. I figured she’d work perfect for the yellow portion. I used gel medium to adhere the magazine image to some printer paper so she’d have a little more stability as I cut around her.

For the background I once again decided to use gelatos…

SOC5 week3 2

So far they haven’t failed me. Although I was surprised at how pink the lavender gelato appeared on the page. I decided to just press on since the tube was clearly labeled lavender.

Instead of doing a straight up checker board I went with random rectangles. The blending gave a slightly dreamy quality in my eye.

SOC5 week3 3

I searched through my collection of phrase fragments until something came together.

These colors definitely had me stepping…or perhaps leaping outside my comfort zone. That’s what challenges are for, right?!?!

I finally found my heART journal!!  So of course I had to play…play in the sun

materials used: gesso, gelatos, acrylic paint, washi tape, diamond netting as stencil, magazine image, clothing tag, butterfly(Michael’s), pre-printed quote, gold pigment ink pad and perfect pearls.

Yesterday afternoon while searching for my heart shaped journal….which I still haven’t found…I came across 2 art journals I had started years ago. One is almost full and the second only has a handful of pages complete.

The large butterfly image fell into my lap as I was digging around through my stash. I decided it was high time that I used it.everything glowed

I began with gesso and paint for the background in greens and yellow. Sort of thinking rainforest  backdrop. After it dried I was convinced that it needed more color and texture. Out came the gelatos! I’m loving them…my new favorite supply! everything glowed closeup

I went over top with a little more paint sponged through a bit of punchenella.  I searched my bin of found text until some words spoke to me.
