A second look: rusting result

Today for Second on the 2nd I’m sharing a second look at rusted fabric. This was the first time I tried this technique and was quite pleased with the results. Since then I’ve rusted more fabric and even some watercolor paper.

Take a look…

I just couldn’t wait any longer. I had to unwrap the fabric.

I’m going to leave them to dry in the yard for a little while.

Just look at all the rusty goodness…

And this…

Love it!!

My question now is…do I rinse the fabric or leave it as is? I love the look of it right now but don’t want to endanger myself or others if it should be rinsed.

I did end up rinsing the fabric at the urging of Elizabeth…it faded a bit but was still quite glorious. This post reminds me that I need to ask Mr. G for some more scrap metal that I can use for rusting.

Oh goodness that rusty lace is delicious. I haven’t tried rusting anything (yet) but it looks like fun. I’d enjoy the thrill of opening the package and seeing the results.

Wow! That certainly looks gorgeous! What did you do with the fabric in the end? I’m curious to know…
    Happy 2nd of the 2nd,

Yes, I was glad to read that you washed the fabric in baking soda water and wore gloves through the process, too. You can never be too careful with rust, although most people who rust fabric and paper either don’t know, don’t care, or seem to ignore the the obvious.

And of course, I could tell Lisca and others what happened to some of that lovely rusted fabric. It’s still some of my favorite art.

Thanks for reposting this as your second look on the 2nd.

Wow! That lace looks fabulous! I rusted some for Elizabeth’s journal swap pages so had to make sure it was rinsed properly! Hugs, Chrisx
