AJJ: green floral

I really struggled to name this one…maybe that’s what happens when I don’t include words. On occasion I’ve set that as a challenge for myself.

Do you name your artwork? I like to so that my images aren’t just a basic string of numbers. I digress…

I started this journal page with a piece of Tim Holtz Backdrops. After cutting to the appropriate size, I began my layering process once again.

In full disclosure, I started with the 3 coordinating scraps of fabric my neighbor gifted me with and the small paper and fabric cluster. I pretty much worked backward find things that spoke to me.

Bits of scrapbook paper and ephemera helped me round out the overall design.

The tag I added screamed that it needed a dangle. I love having something with some movement or extra texture on a page. While sifting through a small drawer of beads and such, I found this perfectly matched charm. It may have been an earring in its former life but now it’s a lovely page dangle.

Besides lack of a good name, this is one of my favorites for the July challenge theme of Fabric, lace and trims…oh my! over at Art Journal Journey.

  1. It’s a lovely page.
Oh, and you could call it ‘Turquoise baggage’.
    Enjoy your weekend,
    Lisca

  2. Those coordinating fabrics are like a dream together with the green background complimenting them all. Beautiful work with paper & fabric, the dangly is a lovely added embellishment.. Another fabulous AJJ piece. Thank you for the inspiration.

  3. I’m terrible at labeling or even dating my art work. I mean to do it, but I just forget. Then when I think of it I can’t remember when I made it. And some art pieces have a ready name and some don’t. But you picked a good one for this piece Halle. I love green and so I especially enjoyed this piece. You did some lovely layering and have some beautiful fabrics. Have a super July 4th. hugs-Erika

  4. Love the layering. Love the various fabrics. Love the sewing. Love the paper flower. This is a perfect entry for your theme at AJJ. You may know how I feel about words and sentiments. Sometimes words get in the way. Sometimes they must be included, or the spread wouldn’t make sense.

  5. Dear Halle,
How would you like “Floral Dream Concert” as a name for your work? Because I see a nostalgic concert ticket – and your journal page is beautifully and harmoniously composed. And how perfectly matching the earring page dangle is!
I want to thank you so much for your kind comment on my previous Canada post, which you visited via Elizabeth’s T-Day Linkup, and I’m sorry it’s taking me so long to visit you as well.
I’m so glad you remember the area we used to explore from your childhood. If you’re interested, there’s a new travel chapter up and running…
All the best from Austria 🤗.
