Since I completed my Just for Fun altered book I had nowhere to play. I started a new book this morning. I’m calling this one my Playtime altered book.

This is the first spread.

I started smack in the middle of the book for a change. I was basically trying out some new supplies I acquired.

I went to an awesome sale a few blocks from here last week and got all of these supplies for $8.50!!! Everything was unopened or nearly newly! The gal ran a rubber stamp business and was moving across the country so she decided to liquidate.

As luck would have it, I didn’t have much cash and the kids were along, otherwise I’d have likely way overspent my budget. You just don’t come by sale s like that very often!!

There are so many things I love about altered books.

  • The feeling of completion when I’ve filled up the all pages
  • The way they never close completely
  • The warped pages
  • The paint that got smudged onto the inside covers even though I thought I was careful
  • The colorful pages just begging to be touched

I’m definitely going to start another “no theme” book. I love the freedom and chance to express what ever it is that I am feeling at any moment. It also gives me a great place to practice techniques and designs.

After a morning spent thirfting, I decided to play a bit this afternoon.
I know that my hubby was crossing his fingers that the front lawn would be mowed when he returned but that’s not likely to happen. Sorry sweetie!

I used my “Just for Fun” AB to practice another tropical scene. I’m not satisfied with the one I created a while back for our upstairs bathroom. I have the vision of what I’d like it to look like but have yet to decide the medium. Maybe collage or another painting..who knows. It may be totally mixed media.

I had a chance to play last evening. I broke out my “just for fun” AB.

Since I was in a sort of playful silly mood…likely because my sweet husband took the kids out and gave me some much needed peace…I threw down this fun polka dot tissue paper.

It just made me smile so I included my feelings of the moment. Or maybe it was just the wine.
Just kidding!!

I decided to pull out my “just for fun” altered book to use up some scraps on my work surface.

Well, technically, the tall ship packing tape transfer was adhered to the cabinet door. Everything else was just laying within reach both on the desk and the small drawer that I throw random small scraps into while creating. Bigger scraps go into my color coded files eventually.

It was really fun working in an altered book again. It’s been a while…

I finally bound some old tip-in and smaller size pages into one book this week.

I’m on a mission to finish all these UFO’s (unfinished objects) I’ve started somewhere along the line.

I was chatting with a neighbor just this evening over the bonfire about memory and lack thereof. Is it Adult-ADD or short-term memory loss but whatever you want to call it…I’ve got it!!! Geez… I can’t walk down the 2 sets of stairs to the basement and remember what the heck it was I went down there for!
OK…I think I’m on a tangent now….

My original point was…I have a ton of projects started or even nearly complete but never seem to tie up all my loose ends. THAT is my new mission.

With that said….haha…I have started a new project or more of a challenge. It’s a call for art from Somerset Memories magazine. It can be either a group or an individual using ONE IMAGE to create a multitude of art. Of course since it will be up for submission I won’t be showing what I’ve created until I’ve heard the news either way… I hope to get my projects in the mail next week for consideration.

It just occurred to me that the last few posts haven’t had much to do with art…

I am doing a bit of creating. I am working on an altered book about my dad. I’ve had this idea for at least a year but haven’t done anything with it. I have a book that he had gotten as a young boy. His signature is in the front cover as a kid. I thought it would be an awesome book to pay tribute to him in. Since Dad’s stroke a couple weeks ago I had been thinking more and more about this book. I want him to see it. I don’t want it to be something that is at his memorial service somewhere down the road. I think a big part of me didn’t want to make the book because it seemed as if it was a “memorial”. Now I see that it totally isn’t!! I want to be able to know those stories in his own words and hold on to them for my children.
