I’m linking up today with Art Journal Journey.  This month’s theme is Through My Window.

I wasn’t sure I was going to play along with the theme this month. It didn’t really speak to me. But as I was searching through my bin of found text, this sentence appeared at my finger tips.

Generally I don’t work backward like this. Usually I create the spread then finish with words.

I began with a crazy paint splattered background that was super ugly. To many colors that didn’t quite mesh. But this often lends itself to depth in a page when adding layers.

I had intended on only using paint for the page but It became clear to me that having more texture would be the way to go.

Since I was going all in with texture I decided to keep my color palette small.

I’m glad I decided to play along. Challenges have a wonderful way of drawing me out of my comfort zone. It’s strange really that sometimes those are the pieces I’m most proud of at the end of the day.

Art Journal Journey

Nothing like waiting to the last minute or the final hour to work on the Art Journal Journey theme for this month… TIME

Art Journal Journey

Honestly I wasn’t working directly towards the theme but after placing the focal image down the idea that she was in a hurry came to mind. Then it was just a point of find the right words to fit her look.

I find it ironic that the happens to be an ermine on the page….part of the weasel family…often associated with being sneaky. Fun how things work out sometimes.

Hello! Did you miss me? I’ve been around just not keeping up with the digital world. Summer is passing so quickly and it seems as if the appointments and events are multiplying on the calendar. This seems to happen every year at this time.

I finally was inspired to do some art journaling. I started with a page I had used to clean my brushes and palette on during a long ago project. Having that base of color gives a jumpstart on building the layers that give depth to a page.

After putting down some more colors it was a little too “in your face” for me. I took some white paint on my finger and mellowed out some areas. The end result made me much more happy than the beginning loudness.

I found the image of the old cowboy in a bin and thought his color scheme meshed well.

Then it was the hunt for the perfect found text to give life to the page.

I thought these words spoke to the worn down look of the old cowhand.

The colors for this Week 3 of The Summer of Color hosted by Kristin of Twinkle, Twinkle gave me some trouble. I wasn’t sure how I wanted to proceed so I didn’t until today.

1 purple + 1 purple + 1 yellow

I happened upon an image of a little girl all in yellow in a magazine ad. I figured she’d work perfect for the yellow portion. I used gel medium to adhere the magazine image to some printer paper so she’d have a little more stability as I cut around her.

For the background I once again decided to use gelatos…

SOC5 week3 2

So far they haven’t failed me. Although I was surprised at how pink the lavender gelato appeared on the page. I decided to just press on since the tube was clearly labeled lavender.

Instead of doing a straight up checker board I went with random rectangles. The blending gave a slightly dreamy quality in my eye.

I searched through my collection of phrase fragments until something came together.

These colors definitely had me stepping…or perhaps leaping outside my comfort zone. That’s what challenges are for, right?!?!

Just a silly little found text story I created….the madman

Yesterday afternoon while searching for my heart shaped journal….which I still haven’t found…I came across 2 art journals I had started years ago. One is almost full and the second only has a handful of pages complete.

The large butterfly image fell into my lap as I was digging around through my stash. I decided it was high time that I used it.everything glowed

I began with gesso and paint for the background in greens and yellow. Sort of thinking rainforest  backdrop. After it dried I was convinced that it needed more color and texture. Out came the gelatos! I’m loving them…my new favorite supply! everything glowed closeup

I went over top with a little more paint sponged through a bit of punchenella.  I searched my bin of found text until some words spoke to me.

Having a bit of fun in my door journal today. Nov 19 2014Bits and pieces….accumulation. Found text. Paint, pens and stamps. Ah, the fun and freedom in creating.
