I have so many vintage linens squirreled away in boxes. It’s really a shame. Lately I’ve been thinking about purging some things especially things that no longer bring me joy. My trouble is that I have a hard time parting with some of these vintage pieces. I’m beginning my journey of letting go by cutting up the stained and tattered ones first because in reality…who’s going to want them other than me for sentimental value.

These pieces were just waiting for an opportunity to come together.

I’ve added the completed piece to enhance my laundry room decor.

I think perhaps this is a good first step in letting go by being able to hold onto a little piece…if that even makes sense.

I got my vintage vibe back today. I really felt like art journalling. Getting paint covered fingers and messy grungy pages was all I could think about.

I didn’t really give a whole lot of for thought other than wanting to use some really watered down sprays so show off the texture I was going to create.texture on art journal page

In the end I used gelatos and water color crayons as well to add the depth of color I sought.

I layered strips of yellow and blue scraps on both sides of the spread before adding the first layers of color sprays. Layer upon layer until I got the look I desired.  After I found this woman on a pattern envelope I knew she needed something sort of snarky to say. She just had that look about her. Then this image from one of the Reader Digest books I tore apart magically appeared. Well not magic but darn close…it was basically the first image I saw in the stack.

From where I’m sitting it looks to me like a secret society

Yep…in those days the ‘good old boys club’ pretty much was a secret society to women.

Linking up to with Art Journal Journey for this months theme for Vintage or Modern.

Today, for my birthday, I took some time out to create. With the school year winding down and everything that entails this year, I’ve been finding it harder and harder to carve out creative time.

I glued some random papers to parts of my book then used thick white craft paint to give a bit of texture with a palette knife. I was planning molding paste but my jar was dried up…hard as a rock.

Next I used my fingers to spread two shades of teal then a light touch of plum purple on the very edge. I blended everything with a slightly damp babywipe. I continued to wipe away at the areas with the white paint to bring the lightness back for interest on the pages.

I used Staz-on to stamp gears and clock numbers on the background.

Washi tape was used to adhere a glassine envelope holding a tag to the page.  I added some stacked paper and button embellishments I created from my stash. The colors meshed well with the overall look.

More washi was added for balance on this side along with a snippet of music. I added a bottle cap I picked up on a walk since it reminded me of the treasures I bring home.

As I looked through one of my favorite books to cut words and phrases from I saw this in a line.  Perfect.

Secret notes and treasures.

Another art journal page on the books…er…the book. *wink* I was heading in a different direction with this page when I began last night. I walked away while waiting for the gesso and a bit of light green paint to dry. I was feeling as if I’d make another abstract geometric type page. Those have been my favorite kind lately. I feel as if they are becoming my “signature style” so to speak. This morning my muse took a sharp right.

beginning to blossom

I was in the mood to use some gelatos. I used a light hand when applying several shades of green and yellow. I used a baby wipe to blend.  At this point I was at a loss so I started looking though my scrap bucket for inspiration. I found a book page with the words and knew then I had direction. The scrap of vellum got me thinking about a sweet paper pieced daisy I recently received from a generous fellow blogger…more on that in another post. (em-hem…Tuesday)

Daisies are really one of my very favorite flowers. I journalled a little about how they make me feel before stamping the date. Incidentally while doing that I realized that I had inadvertently stamped August on the last two pages I did. DUH! I’ll have to go back and fix those.

I’m once again linking up with Art Journal Journey for the current months theme of In my garden.

Art Journal Journey

After my previous mellow subdued journal page, my inner wild child was kicking and screaming to get out.

Bold texture and color makes me so happy.

As well as finding words that speak to me in the moment.

After sitting down to create ATC’s for a swap (more on that another time), I was feeling quite inspired. I decided work in my art journal with the current AJJ theme of In my garden in mind. I definitely wasn’t going to limit myself to the theme though.

Turns out that was the direction I was heading anyway.

After painting on the page with my fingers, I added some more background texture with stamped text to simulate greenery. I fussy cut around one of my rose photographs then went off to find some words.

I like that I leave you hanging…wondering….”what did she realize?”  I added a bit to line-work with both black and white pens before stamping my date and calling it a day.

Forty-Two I believe

Now who can tell me what I’m referencing?

Forty-Two I believe

This page was created on the back of a Ritz cracker box bound into my door journal. I very rarely use this journal…in fact I had put it away in the cupboard and forgotten about it until yesterday.

Forty-Two I believe

I seem to do my pages about a year part…so at that rate I’ll be done with this one in about 8 years. HA!
